Napoli Make Light Work of Eintracht Frankfurt in Champions League Clash
The Champions League never fails to deliver excitement, and on Tuesday 21st February 2023, Eintracht Frankfurt hosted Napoli in the first leg of their highly anticipated clash. The Serie A league leaders arrived in Germany as firm favourites, and they did not disappoint. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at how the match unfolded.
Eintracht Frankfurt came into the game in decent form, having won three of their last four matches, scoring an impressive nine goals in the process. However, they faced a Napoli side in rampant form, who made light work of their German opponents.
Napoli were awarded a penalty in the 36th minute, which was subsequently missed by the in-form Georgian winger Kvaratskhelia. However, just four minutes later, Napoli broke the deadlock, with the Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen adding yet another goal to his impressive tally, netting his 25th goal in 26 games this season in all competitions.
The match fell out of Eintracht Frankfurt's hands, as French striker Kolo Muani was shown a straight red card in the 58th minute, after a late challenge on Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa. Napoli then put the game to bed shortly after, as Di Lorenzo finished his chance seven minutes after the red card.
The match finished 2-0 to Napoli, leaving Eintracht Frankfurt with a mountain to climb in the second leg in Naples in three weeks' time. Without their top scorer Muani, the German side faces a tough challenge. But, do they still have any chance of progressing through to the Champions League Quarter-final?
Can Eintracht Frankfurt Make a Comeback?
Eintracht Frankfurt's chances of progressing through to the next round of the Champions League look slim. They now have to travel to Naples to face an in-form Napoli side that has won 13 of their last 15 games in all competitions. However, football is a game of surprises, and anything can happen. If Eintracht Frankfurt can put in a solid performance in the second leg and limit Napoli's chances, they may still have a chance of making a comeback.
Napoli has taken a significant step towards the quarter-finals of the Champions League after their victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. Eintracht will need to put in a herculean effort in the second leg to stand any chance of progressing. However, stranger things have happened in football, and we eagerly await the return leg in Naples.
