Shirt of the Month - December 2022: Atletico Mineiro
Our shirt of the month for December 2022 is this beautiful Atletico Mineiro 2021/22 shirt. Atletico Mineiro currently play in the top tier of Brazilian football, as well as in the Campeonato Mineiro, the top flight state league of Minas Gerais. Atletico Mineiro are the oldest active football club in Minas Gerais and have won their state league a record 47 times, as well as winning Serie A twice.
Atletico Mineiro opened a competition to its supporters where they could design the club’s shirt for the 2021/22 season and selected finalists would have their shirt design voted for by the fans. This sounds like a risky move by the Brazilian club but the winning fan rose to the challenge, producing a very unique, intricate and eye-catching design.
The shirt contains a detailed map of their home state, Minas Gerais, along with the phrase 'Uma Vez Até Morrer' which is Portuguese for ‘once until I die’ on the chest. This caused a wave of praise across the world on social media, with some fans labelling this shirt one of the best releases of all time. Due to the huge initial demand for this special edition shirt this is still, over a year later, one of the rarest shirts around, with thousands of fans on the waiting list to get one of these iconic shirts!
